So after a long arduous journey with bluescreens and other issues I've finally determined that my cpu or mobo has bit the dust and must be replaced. The ol' phenom2 x3 720 had a good haul..

Anyway, I'm in a bit of a sticky spot financially right now and have priced out an lga1150 cpu mobo combo that should be better than my old one here and have the ability to drop in a nice core i7 when I have the extra funds in a month or so:

Pentium G3420
Asus Z87-A mobo

I just have two questions:

1) I read in an article that there was some trouble with sata2 compatibility.. and I'm pretty sure the HD I have is original sata.. will this even work?

2) I just bought some Kingston hyperx black series ddr3-1600 cl9 ram thinking my troubles were with ram (they werent obviously), but it says 1.65v on it. I've done a lot of reading around and it seems it will be perfectly fine, but it may down it to 1.5v and then lower the clock, which I suppose is okay enough - Will the asus board allow me to boost it to 1.65v and its proper operating speed? I chose the G3420 because its memory controller can handle the 1600mhz ram.

I want to simply unconnect things, drop in the new mobo and cpu and go.. I have a pretty simple system, all I need to connect is my old gts 250, a pci wifi card, a single HD and a dvdr drive. I know, I know, I'm living in a legacy. Kind of a shame I'll have to find some way to transfer stuff from my old IDE drive to a new drive!

Thanks guys. I've read the G3420 is almost 100% faster at single core operations which should be amazing compared, lol. I've gotten into doing, well I want to, get into audio recording with my guitar and I need a stable rig. I was hoping my comp would remain stable enough but it just hasn't so I'm at this crossroad.

Cheers
