Hi, all.

My 4-year-old PC just started acting up. One day after putting it to sleep, it will not come back up. When I power up, I will get a beep and the splash screen, then the video will eventually go out. I've cleared the CMOS a couple of times. After researching here I thought it might be a power supply issue, so I go another one to replace it (my PS crapped out on my other PC a few weeks ago, so it seemed timely). After changing the PS, not much difference. I can get into the BIOS for up to 30 seconds, then the video craps out again. Sometimes the PC will then shutdown. And some other times it will go into some kind of boot cycle. I don't think it get's to loading the OS as I never see the PC come up on the network.

I have even booted into Memtest+ and get the same results after about 30s. I would try to upgrade the BIOS, but I'm concerned if it craps out in the middle, my machine will be dead.

On boot sometimes I will get the initial beep and sometimes not. Just to test the beeps, I removed the RAM from the MB and attempted a boot, no beeps at all. So I'm suspecting it might be a MB issue. All of the voltages and temps look OK.

I don't have much details on the HW now.
MB:Asrock P43DE.
CPU: Intel Quad Core.
RAM: Fata1ity DDR2
GPU: GeForce 9800GTX+

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

It does seem like a motherboard issue, or maybe even a CPU one. You might even want to try swapping out the hardrive. Also, are you using intergrated graphics or a PCI card? If it is the Intergrated graphics' problem you may need a new CPU.

Thanks for the response. I'm thinking the same, and will probably have to replace MB and CPU (and RAM, probably RAM).

My GPU is an GeForce 9800GTX+. I had considered this. I have another card with the same interface in the PC I'm typing on now. Later today I will take it apart and swap out the GPU if that's the problem.

I don't think the it's the HDD; it doesn't make it that far. While I'm swapping things out later I will put that HDD in the other PC to make sure it works (and back everything up again). Will post an update tonight.

Okay. It wouldn't hurt to try clear the CMOS also.

Confirmed not a HDD issue. I put the HDD in my other PC and it mounts fine. I spread it could be the matter boot record or something, but I really doubt it. I'm backing or up now anyway just on case. I'll swap out the GPU tonight.

I've cleared the CMOS several times. Swapped batteries, reset the jumpers, pressed the power button for 1 minute. All that jazz when I swapped out the power supply.
