I’ve searched quite extensively and have not been able to find somebody with a situation like this. Here we go….. computer is acer aspire 5741 with windows 7 (64 bit). my dad send me this computer to try and fix and he hasn’t been very helpful with how the computer got to this point. All I want to do is install a fresh copy of windows.

I have the 1 acer system disc as well as the 3 acer system restore discs. I turn on the computer (without a disc in the drive) and I get a screen that says: “PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable”, PXE-M0F: Exiting broadcom PXE ROM”, “BOOTMGR is missing”, Press C+A+D to restart.

WIth the system disc in the drive it loads the files needed and the windows system restore brings me to the point of choosing one of three options : restore to factory defaults, restore to previous point and exit. I choose factory defaults, it then asks for disc one. I put it in , then after trying to find the disc it ejects it and says to insert disc one again.

I don't understand why the dvd would pick up the system disc but not the restore. I have cleaned the restore disc but that didn't help.

Any directions would be appreciated. Thanks in advanced.

well, "bootmgr is missing" means you lost your OS. If the drive picks up the first dvd, then asks for another, but spits out the one you gave it, its not looking for that disk. It sounds like its expecting a different disk than the one you're giving it.

That does make sense. Only problem now is that i'm having trouble finding an area of the acer website that lists the correct part # for the disc that are supposed to be used. Any idea where i might find that info. I have RD.NB3A7.H18 and also 1-8G1CA2 listed on these recovery disc's. Thanks for the help!

Well after doing more and more and more reading I came across post on the acer forums that was dead on. I need to get rid of some stuff still on the HD, maybe the recovery partition?. So, i need to reformat the thing again. Only problem is that I don't know how to do that since i have no os on the computer at all. I guess I need a bootable program that would allow me to reformat the HD??????

This is a small bootable program. It has the ability to wipe out a hard drive without any OS installed. It's got a dozen tools packaged into it and one should suit your needs. Burn this to a dvd on a different computer and then just stick it in your PC and let it run at startup.

Thanks for the reply. I may just need that link since the product key is barely legible. I downloaded the W7 ISO and that has worked up until this point. THis is the screen i am stuck on:

I have a system disc but not an "Install disc". Am i being asked for W7 drivers or acer ones? Are these W7 drivers on the ISO disc that I used to begin W7 install?? Thanks,
