Bascially i'm looking to upgrade my GPU to Gigabyte's R9 270x 4GB (I gave up on the Sapphire r9 270x toxic as it's just too long for the case, whereas the Gigabyte card is just right at 290mm). My only worry is that the Gigabyte website states that a 600W PSU is needed. I have a 500W Corsair CX500M, and as far as i have been told, GPU manufacturers overstate the power needed because of inefficient PSUs.

All in all, will my PSU be able to power this GPU?

Thanks for helping a noob out guys :)

Technically it depends how much power the rest of your system draws, but in practice you'll be fine. It would have to be an extremely power-hungry system to top 500W; the R9 270X has a TDP of 180W, and a CPU is usually below 150W (and the rest of the system only draws modest amounts of power).

(Noob Question Alert!) How does the r9 270x CF differ from the r9 270x?

Also, you seem to like i7s, i have an i5, sorry! ;)

In this context CF stands for using 2 graphics cards in CrossFire. Obviously requires a beefier power supply.
