Overlocking my 8 core FX CPU on a 4+1 VRM

My motherboard is ASRock 880g pro3. I have an FX 8120 CPU that I have overclocked to 4.24GHz with a vcore of 1.4625v. Rock solid stability under Prime95 for over 2 hours so far. it won't overclock more unless I go over 1.5v. I have core temps maxing out at around 45c. I'm just a bit worried about the VRM. I believe it's a 4+1 phase VRM. There is a heatsink on the VRM and the temp from the heatsink is 50c. I believe that should be a safe temp but I'm not sure as I don't know much about VRMs yet. Also I noticed that once I disabled Spread Spectrum I was able to overclock higher than 4.0GHz. I wonder if there are any other options I can disable to get better stability? I'm not looking to overclock further I just want better stability at a lower vcore if I can.

I'm surprised also about the temp. That's why I wanted to ask and see if that's a normal operating temp. I guess they are pretty good quality even though it's just 4+1 phase. Before I disabled Spread spectrum I could not overclock beyond 4GHz no matter what voltage I set it to run at.

How do you know that the power and thermal design of my motherboard is poor? Information about this is sparse. I've had it overclocked at 4.0GHz for 2 years and it's still going strong. I would just like to know how you know this stuff so next time I buy a motherboard I'll know what to look for.
