which ram setup will give me better performance?

4 X 8 gb 1600 hertz

or

2 X 8 gb 2100 hertz

I am building my pc
debating whether if I should buy 32gb all at once and settle for 1600 hertz or just buy the 16gb with higher Hz

Solution

some tips would be, make sure your RAM timings aren't exceeding 9 and try to get as low voltage as possible. For Haswell series the Trident X are the best match and best performer for your cpu. Check out this one:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

Memory: G.Skill Trident X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-2133 Memory ($179.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $179.99
(Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.)

For gaming? Neither. You'll only need 8GB of 1600 MHz RAM. There's no difference between 1600 and 2800 MHz RAM in gaming. As for other applications, it may help a little for video editing as well as the large RAM count of 16 GB. As for 32 GB, you're just pissing money away at that point.

I want to do 3d gaming in ultra settings.
Also, I will use the pc for work. I use photoshop and watch lots of high def movies.

If you do heavy editing I would say go 16GB, but otherwise 8GB is fine.

I dont do heavy editing with huge size files.

What about hertz speed.

Should I go for 2400hz or higher?

That can get pretty expensive. I would go for 2133Mhz.

I can afford upto $200 for Ram.
I want the maximum performance for 200.
would the 2400mhz make a difference from 2133 or is it a waste of money?

IMO it is a waste of money because you won't see that much of an improvement. Maybe a few seconds.

Here's a link to a guy who decided to do a benchmark with different ram speeds

http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1255433

The rendering were only seconds apart.

That would still be good but there won't be any significant difference between one you chose and one i mentioned above. For 2400Mhz has bit more speed and other has bit better timings. If you want to, get it. Good luck :)
