I haven't been able to play games since I got this card a few months ago, and now I'm having overheating problems. I fixed the horrible wire management. Still overheats, just less often. This pc is pretty old now besides the GPU, with 2 awful case fans.

I did some temp monitoring and found out that my GPU was getting up to 90C consistently w/ 100% GPU fan speed. I took off the front cover because I was curious if the case fans pulling air too slowly, it went down to 80-83C. I'm investing in some new case fans (3 of them) now and cleaning out my case w/ an air can (fuzzy cat + limited space to put tower = DUST) I'm planning on getting the Cooler Master Jetflo 120 fans but I want to know if that'll be enough to reduce temperatures to safe levels. I've also heard that the thermal paste on MSI HD 7950s were often applied improperly causing them to get up to 10C hotter.

Feel free to mention case fans that might suit my needs better.

Solution
At that temp its probably a safe bet that the thermal paste is improperly applied time to reapply it after that if it does not help set those fans to blow at an angle pointed right at the back of the card right in the middle which is where the chip is.

Those fans are fairly loud. I think if you mounted them right next to a video card with that direct airflow it would be good for that. for about $3 more a fan you can get noctua 120mm case fans which are well known for being one of the best pressure optimized fans. They are also one of the most silent fans out there because of how well they can move air at even low rpm's. They might not be flashy but they are extremely well designed.

How much quieter? I know you can choose between three fan speed settings when you hook them up so that it can be quieter. Max= 2000 rpm @ 36 db, Med= 1600 @ 28 db, Low= 1200 @ 19 db. What are the details on the noctua fan? I don't know much about fans, would the noctuas give the same amount of air movement with a lower noise?

Yes, they also would push and pull way more air if you do like most people do in their cases now with a push pull config. Generally the less of a gap a fan has between the blades, the more air it can actually pull or push out. Some designs like the one that you originally link have a huge gap but with the design they are good for direct airflow over a component. but 90% of the time if you have good overall airflow throughout your system that won't be needed. So what this allows the noctua to do is pull a lot more air at much lower rpms because it hardly has any gaps between the surface area of the blades. I have a test bench that I have for customer computers and I use 2 noctuas on it and I can't hear anything from them at normal settings most of the time. Even with the low noise adapter I noticed that they move more air than most other fans.

Well my skepticism comes from the reported CFU, the noctuas push about 65ish CFU whereas the JetFlo pushes up to 94 CFU at 2000 rpm. Thanks for the help and patience btw.

Would I send it back to the manufacturers to get the thermal paste reapplied? If I did it myself, would my warranty be nullified?

I had two msi hd 6950's and reapplied thermal paste and had to send it back in to have a fan fixed and they still honored the warranty but i think officially yes it will void the warranty but its very easy to apply thermal paste and to clean off the old stuff. I would look at msi's policy
