Hi,
I'm planning to get a AMD Radeon HD 5450 just to get the HDMI port in my older CPU. My doubt is that will the card be able to get the required power supply from the PSU which is 200W . I want to connect the CPU to my TV thru' the HDMI , so that I could watch movies on it
MOTHERBOARD :- INTEL DG31PR CHIPSET
PROCESSOR :- INTEL CORE 2 QUAD Q8200 @ 2.33 GHz
RAM :- 2 * 2 GB DDR3 RAM
HARD DISK :- 250 GB SATA
OPTICAL DRIVE :- DVD R-RW
No graphics card on the PC currently , just the integrated Intel card runs on it.
Please help guys.

Thanks!!

Well I really think you should not. Because hd 5450 at full stress uses upto 177 watts of power and yet it cannot run most current games. And while running most games it will be under load(normally full load). That might cause problems, especially if your psu is an old one.

Even Guru3d states that hd 5450 requires 300 watt psu (minimum).
I am not saying that it won't work. But it will cause problems to your psu if it's not of a nice quality while under load. And trust me, you wouldn't want your psu to die because you pushed it to it's limits. Bad quality psu can usually take some another component with it when it dies. Even my friends generic 600w psu died when he...

I suggest you to get a nice 350-400w psu and get hd 7770 instead. It requires even less power and will be more suitable with your cpu. q8200 is a nice cpu, you should try to get max out of it with a nice gpu.

Well let's say hd 5450 uses 150w when idle and 161 under load. And a single hdd uses normally 10-15 watts.
So 161+15= 176w out of 200 watts. And q8200 could use 90w power as per you so that makes it 266w power usage under load. So Given that OP has 200w psu, woudn't his gpu will be having a hard time running with such less power supply.
I mean if the cpu is taking 90-95 w and hdd is taking 15 w while running an application, hd 5450 could be in a problem, resulting Pc shut down. Don't you think?
And if OP will be running any game, hd 5450 is likely to be under load every time.

In which country do you live? I am sure I will be able to find a nice psu for you in your budget. And If the gpu will be just for movies and not for gaming and also if your budget is limited, then I think getting a gpu like gt 210 or something might allow you to get a nice psu.

I'm from India.. I want to do a lil bit of both -- gaming as well as movies... Which PSU would be a better upgrade for the HD 5450 ?

This psu is good enough for hd 5450. It's of equall quality to corsair cx, so it can take stress pretty easily. Tell me if you wan't a bigger power supply, because that won't be enough if you plan on upgrading to a med end gpu later except gtx 750 and gtx 750ti.

total system power on their test bed, not the 5450 alone. it will use no more than about 35w on its own running furmark which will use more power than any game or video player. its has been used in many 150-200w htpc systems with no issues. its not a gaming gpu, just useful in low power xbmc/media player systems. if the op plans on running prime95 and furmark at the same time, he might be pushing it.

here is another review showing "total" system power under stress programs. granted it may not be a good idea to "stress" a system with a 200w power supply, but it will work. for watching movies or streaming youtube, it will be a breeze.

Sure, but I still think stressing that psu is not a good Idea, I know what kind of psu's they sell in a pre-built system in India. As per my knowledge, those psu's are the cheapest in the market. That kind of psus are not even sold in USA.
And while gaming, that psu is most likely to suffer.
