Pls when I push the power button on my laptop it comes on but nothing shows on the screen. The capslock light blinks 5 times when I switch on. I've tried draining the power then restarting to no avail (though it came on once after I drained the power and left it to stay overnight without the battery). I've also tried another RAM but it's still the same.
The last time something like this happened a technician disassembled my laptop and went to heat a component and it came back on. I guess its the graphics chip but am not too sure.
Could that be the problem again?

try outoputting it to another screen from the laptops VGA output, if there is still no go then the graphics chip, if it does work then your screen is busted.

But the HP series (older) are well known to have graphics heating issues

@leeashton. Thanks for the reply. I noticed that leaving the laptop without power for a long time and then retrying powers it up with the screen coming up. So it's obvious that the screen still works. I suspect that it's the graphics chip problem. Is there a quick fix for it or I'll have to replace?

Thanks
