I can't remember the name of an old pc game where it starts in an insane asylum and you have to escape your room and avoid guards. Everytime you get caught you lose and get a brain lobotomy.

Looks like someone googled the same game title.

First thing that popped in my head when I read this was Access Software's Countdown. I still have the large game box. I had played Crime Wave and Mean Streets prior to that which got me hooked into their company. This game ran in DOS and took advantage of the internal PC speaker to create digitized sound effects for those who did not own a Sound Blaster this was a blessing! Also one of the earlier games that pioneered the use of VGA digitized graphics and RealSound.

Enjoy.

I think that would be the wrong decade and the Trash 80 (as it was affectionately called) was pretty much out of the picture by then. He said around 1990. Also, most people referred to any IBM or compatible computer as a PC so it fits his description of "old pc game" from 1990. I remember the constant lobotomization every time you made a mistake on Countdown.

The exact same thing happened in Asylum. I missed the '80s and '90s entirely, while recovering from all those lobotomies I got in the '70s!

Looks like there are TRS-80 emulators if you can get the disk image you can once again revisit your lobotomies and can skip the '10s. :)

The only versions made of the original Asylum are for the TRS-80 and Apple ][ on floppy disks and audio cassette tapes. Hard to find these anywhere and no sign of it on eBay and if they show up I'm sure they'll cost you a lobotomy. Then you'll need a Trash 80 or Apple ][ to actually play it.

Countdown would be easier to find on eBay and cost you half a lobotomy. You can easily play this on a modern PC using DOSBOX.

Luckily I already paid for mine back in the day.
