built my first pc. h87-g43 mobo. intel core i5 4670k processor. 8gig ram corsair vengeance(2x4)
evga NVidia GeForce gtx 760 sc. windows 8.1 OS. with ssd and hdd. in a corsair 230t case. all went great installed windows and drivers and updated. all was working fine till I tried to use my new turtle beach ear force z11 headset for PC's. plugged in the headset jack first (on front of case) and a window popped up asking what I had just plugged in, I checked headset. plugged in the mic jack and same window popped up ask what I just plugged in and I checked mic. wouldn't work. I unplugged both and plugged back in and the window popped up again. repeated this process a few times, so I tried the back of pc straight from the mobo and it did the same thing. still not working. tried headset in old pc and it worked fine. tried my old USB headset in new pc and got both mic and sound work. cant get sound or mic to work with the jacks. what can I do to fix this?

You can try and turn up the volume on a specific port.
Go to
"control panel"
Then "Hardware and sound"
Then click "sound"
Right click on your device (make sure you select the adapter) and click "properties"
Then go to "levels"
You can change the master levels and the specific port volume here like shown in this picture:
http://www.mediafire.com/view/p72libs3armh1gy/example17...
Then adjust them to your preferences.
Hope this helps

finally got sound to happen, but now the window for realtek audio manager shows the ports that you can click on to assign input, headphone, subwoofer, etc. lights up for the orange port and it asks "what has been plugged in?" nothing is plugged into it. I click on any of the items, and it goes out for a second and pops back up. beginning to think I got a bad port on the motherboard or the motherboard itself has problems

Perfect, first open task manager.
Then select the "Start-up" tab
No look for the "Realtek HD Audio Manager"
Select it and on the bottom right click "Disable"
Then reboot.
The program should not bother you again.

ok disabled it and media player said no sound device when I put in a CD. I ran trouble shooter and it turned the manager back on. but got sound. is there a problem with the realtek manager. it keeps wanting me to assign to the port.

Try plugging something into the orange port (like a earphone) and force it to know that it has sound device plugged in.
If that works try unplugging it.
If it starts doing it again just leave it plugged in and mute the orange port by doing this:
Go to
"Control Panel"
Then "Hardware and sound"
Then click "sound"
Right click on your device (make sure you select the adapter) and click "properties"
Then go to "levels"
Change the volume of the orange port to "0"
Hope this helps
