I am about to give up...I've been trying to install Windows 7 64 to a SanDisk 64gb SSD for a few days now. The best I can manage is the first step in the install (extracting...installing...upgrades...features blah blah) everything goes fine. However after the first reboot it starts over with the "Start Install" screen when I should be at the user name screen. Here's some info...

Mobo - Gigabyte GA 990FXA UD5
SanDisk G25 SSD

I have three other drives in my system all are removed during the Windows install. I have switched from IDE to ACHI as far as I can tell, Gigabytes online manuals are terrible (if anyone has more info on switchings from IDE to ACHI on my mobo and in my bios please explain), have tried both GPT and MBR, I've installed via DVD and USB stick.

What really gets me is I know it can be done...I just can't figure it out...any input would be great.

Fresh install, then when asked if you want to update to 8.1 say yes as it gives you back the boot into desktop option. I love it so far, fast and reliable and working great with my UEFI components. I think you will love it!

I would suggest removing the disk, the usb drive or the media from which you have performed the installation as soon as the computer reboots or go into the bios and set the ssd as the first boot device. I think it will work this time ;) Good luck!

The SSD is already the first in the boot order. But I'm confused about your suggestion of the removal of the installation media, in my case the DVD. The system never completes the install it just completes the first reboot in the series then starts over. If I were to take the DVD out after the first reboot wouldn't the installation fail?

Proceed past reboot with the media out to force the system to boot from the SSD. It is the only way forward when the system is trying to boot again and again from the DVD. Anyway I just got my SSD few weeks back and I was not able to install win 7 due to a missing driver error received upon booting up. I went ahead and installed Windows 8 with 0 problems. Hope this helps.

I have to make a point here, that you most likely have two types of sata ports on the motherboard, 2.0 spec. 3 Gbps and 3.0 spec sata 6 Gbps.

Depending on what port you connected the drive to.
And if you have a Ueif bios. Both sata chip sets must be enabled in the bios.

The six black are Sata 3.0 6 Gbps, native ports and likely the two grey can be a mix
to support Sata 2.0 or 3.0 devices.

You should have two boot menus also or setup to boot from a sata 2 or 3 device.

I'm going to give this a shot as well. Would it matter which ports I go with? I've made some adjustments in the Bios, but I'm not 100% sure what needs to be changed. Any further insight?

So with the Windows 8 Install you had no issues...hmm...I have Windows 8, but I've been putting off installing it, this could be the time if it works for me. Was it a Windows 8 upgrade or a fresh install?

I have no idea why it worked, why Windows 8 installed without issue in the same settings as Windows 7 but it worked.

Update...it worked for about 30 minutes then the drive crashed. Through out all of this I'm beginning to believe its a bad SSD...
