I have some corsair xms ddr 3 ram pc 1333 which I don't know if its dead or alive.Short of putting it another mobo is there a way to test it?Also say if I was to try it in another mobo and its dead will it hurt the other computers dim in anyway?I ask this cause Ieep having people tell me that if I put a dead stick in their board it mess it up,any truth to this?
thanks

DRAM can just die, doesn't have to burn or anything, might want to just find if you can try it in another rig, friend, co-worker - a computer at work or whatever, never heard of 3btec, but possible they are selling knowingly damaged products

No the board never boioted up only the fans worked, none of the cd roms or dvd roms would work either.I want to get a new board but with the cost of the ram if its dead Im not going to spend the $.So is the only way to test the ram to try it in another board or is there some other way?
Thanks

I sent the board back to the company I bought it from. They say that the board booted up.I asked them how they bench tested the board but they never replyed back to me.After returning the board I looked up a complaint list and review of the company.Come to find they have a bad history with selling bad boards and very poor customer service.Like I mentioned I want to but another board.I have someone who might be willing to test my ramin their board but they are worried that if my ram is bad it will damge their board?Do they have a legitimate concern or are the over worring?

ok. Little work to do. Pull one stick out but leave one in the first slot. Test the ram with Memtest. If it's good then swap the sticks and test again. Remember if it doesn't boot the first stick then it could be that module. There are also other tests like Windows Memory Diagnostics tool but I just use Memtest86+ You'll need to burn that to disc put it in so it may start at boot here http://www.memtest86.com/

I tried that when I had that mother board,I don't have it any more because I sent it back to the company I bought it for a refund. They said they tested it and worked on their end.I asked them how it was bench tested and if it booted into the splash screen and bios also if it work with the periferals. They never replyed back so I sent them another email still no reply. The company`s name is 3btec.I found a list of complaints a mile long.Im current going to buy a AMD 3+ board and then I hope the ram will work in it.I alos was using a 500watt power supply.Hypatheticaly speaking what would kill the ram and if it is indeed dead would it smell burnt or anything? Also thank you for replying to my questions :)

In all the years that I've been working on PC's, I've never heard or seen bad memory actually 'mess up' an otherwise perfectly good working board. As far as I know, the only thing that will hurt a mobo is a bad psu. If you test your ram 1 stick at a time in your friends pc, since you know his works, it'll either work or beep at you like crazy. If it beeps, its bad or badly seated. If it boots, well thenit works.

Either way, get a mobo from a reputable source. Is suggest a good start would be PCPartPicker, although some ppl have had probs with mobos from newegg (no probs with rma though)

I have asked a couple I know, they are afraid its going to damage thier machine.I dont see any harm if the ram is bad the machine wont boot.If its good then it will.I have been building machines for 12 years when I ran into a board with bad ram I do a few things to test it.First remove suspected bad ram 1 at a time.Replace with good ram.
I dont see what anyone has to fear as long as their ram isnt over clocked. You would have to set the ram settings to default.

I just have a bunch around because the climate is very tough during the winter, since I have nothing else to do I start working and building new computer systems.I build them more or less just as a hobbie not to sell.Nobody offers to buy them when I advertise anyway. The market is flooded with pc`s where I live.I had 11 working computers at one time then a couple of them died.Need to find another hobbie that's cheaper and or get a laptop.I have a smart phone with web but its a bit out dated it does the job though.I wont work on laptops the parts and screws are too small with bad vision I would have strain pretty hard till I can get a magnifier.

If you have one of those head maginfiers there not so bad,I need one awefully bad my glasses just don't work good enough.I have friend who works on them,he`ll take mother boards out from other machines and swap a few parts around then get them going.I kind in away wish they made laptop kits I could build and sell those since most people want the portabilty

Ahhh I see. Well did you manage to slap to modules into your buddies board? I don't see it wrecking their board. It will do the post check on start up and if the chips don't work it will detect that before anything.
