This is a follow up to an earlier post: the situation changed and the problem is partially resolved.
System: Dell Studio XPS 9100, Win7 Pro 64 bit. Samsung 840 Pro boot drive.
Ever since I installed my SSD my system will not boot up when I connect my HGST 4 TB data drive internally. My WD Caviar Black 2 TB drive that's connected internally is fine.
If I do an F12 the HGST is shown on the drives list, which rules out a problem with either the SATA port or the cable. But the boot never gets past the Windows screen: it just hangs forever.
As soon as I disconnect the HGST, the system boots normally.
Here is what is weird: The HGST is fine when installed in a Sabrent USB 2.0 case. System boots normally and sees all 4 TB.
To my knowledge all of my SATA drivers are up to date.
Any idea what could be causing this?
I really don't want to have to use this drive externally, but I am completely stumped.
