So I have a set of parts picked out for my gaming rig, but am unsure of two things.
1. What mobo I will need
2. their compatibility.
(3. Also, what do you think of what I've got picked out? any suggestions?)

So heres a list of what I've got:
Case: Corsair Carbide Series Air 540
CPU: AMD Athlon X4 750K
Graphics Card: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 760 OC
HSF: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO
RAM: 8GB
HDD: 1 TB (considering a HDD/SSD hybrid)
Running: Windows 8 (or maybe 7)

Im trying not to surpass $900 before taxes. Although complete MAX would be 1k. Thanks for any help!

I would seriously suggest ditching the 750k and going for at least an FX-6300.
Try to get the FX-6300 with a Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 or Asus M5A99FX Pro R2.0 motherboard. If you can't afford that, then I would seriously suggest getting a cheaper case for it. Besides that, everything else is good.

The i3-4130 would also offer better performance than the Athlon 750K, if you wanted to go for an Intel socket for a low price. You'd get similar performance from the i3 as you would from the 750K overclocked, which would also allow you to save money by getting rid of the extra CPU cooler.

As far as cases go, it is either the carbide air 504, or the Cooler Master RC-912-KKN1 (the former is most likely the better option. But I am really drawn to how much room the 540 has, as well as the "hot side cold side" set up.

As far as the FX-6300, i am just worried about how hot it supposedly runs, although I suppose by using the extra fan, it might be alright.

Dosent the i3-4130 have virtually the same specs? Also, what about AMD's FX-8320? is it even worth considering?

If I'm going to end up paying >100, than would it be worth the 50 extra bucks to get AMD FX-8320?

That depends. Choosing almost anything except an Athlon processor would allow you to save the $30 on a cooler and not bother with overclocking.

So basically if I go for the FX-6300 or the i3420, than there would be no point in getting the additional 212 EVO, where as if I get something like the FX-8320 than its necessary? I suppose in the end, which way would I end up with more bang for my buck?

No, if you go with an AMD processor you most definitely want the Hyper 212 EVO because the FX chips are meant to be overclocked. The FX-6300 is about the same price as the i3 but the FX-6300 can be overclocked which will give it superior performance. If you do have enough money to grab the FX-8320 + 990FX chipset motherboard + Hyper 212 EVO, then go for it !

Does the FX-8320 need to be OverClocked? or would it still work great as it is? if not than I probably will end up looking for something that will give me good performance without being over clocked (i.e. i3-3420)

All of the FX chips work fine without being overclocked, but they were meant to be overclocked and you should really consider overclocking them because it's really simple. The FX-6300 will give about the same performance as the i3 at stock clocks, but the FX-6300 can be overclocked and out-perform the i3. The FX-8320 will still work fine at stock clocks, and you can leave it at stock clocks. However, I would recommend doing some research and maybe in the future overclock it.

Was that the FX990 sabertooth? or the FX990 SATA by Gigabyte?

The Sabertooth is an expensive and over-priced board, IMHO. The 990FX SATA by Gigabyte doesn't really mean much because Gigabyte makes a lot of 990FX boards. You need to include the part number. I would recommend the Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 or Asus M5A99FX Pro R2.0 because they are some of the cheaper 990FX boards and are still able to overclock very well.
