hello

how are you guys ? i just watch Linus video in youtube about Power supply ,, " how to choose the right one"

and then i said hey why don't you ask the guys about the issue that happened today

this is my pc rig : http://pcpartpicker.com/parts/partlist/

today i went to my pc as usual and turned on and there is smoke came out of my PC !!

i was really shocked .. but the pc was working fine !! i turned off fast ! but i thought why it's working !! i turned on but turned off again cause it smells

for 3rd time i turned on to know where it smells and turned off .. all this didn't take 5 minute in each on and off ^^

but i'm feeling really worried that maybe something damage .. like other than the PSU ?!

but what shocked me is why would Power supply burn and smell like burn ! when i just bought the whole pc about 3 month ago ? and i don't overclock anything .. i just use it almost 10 hours a day and i play only games though my computer is capable to do a lot more than that ! and etismated Watt is 560 something and i picked 850 w ?

so what could be wrong with it ?

i took it to the shop where i bought it and told them about the problem and they said they will fix it .. i hope so :)  i bought it around $4000 which is 17800 DHS in UAE currency :)  that's why i'm so worried ^-^ cause took my 2 years to raise the money.

thank you for your time ,, forgive my language and grammar as i'm not native speaker ^^

have a nice day

any decent psu should protect the other parts from damage. your partpicker list is empty so idk what psu you have.

Hi, If this just started happening, then most likely it is the PSU and it was shorting out for some reason. From your list, you used a 750w PSU and it is considered a good one. If there was an 850w PSU in there, then something else was used and probably not a good quality PSU. Hopefully al that will need cahnging is the PSU. When those things go, thay can take out the Motherboard and a lot of other components and you will have to rebuild the whole thing.

Hmmm, when I clicked on the link, I got a list ( U.S. ). Looks like one I may have done for someone. It showed a XFX 750w Full Modular Gold PSU.

hello guys i'm so sorry i didn't know that partlist will show what we used only ^_^

my PSU is Cooler Master Silent Pro M2 850W 80+ Silver Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply ~

http://www.coolermaster.com/powersupply/enthusiast-silent-pro-m2/silent-pro-m2-850w/

the thing is .. it showed smoke ! and smell like burning when i turned it on.. and i turned it on and it was working !!! and i turned on to check where the smell coming from .. so i turned it 3 times .. and i''m really worried that something damaged ^^ .. i took it to the shop .. the technician tried to fix the PSU and it works and smell too much .. so the shop manager said we have to replace it by warranty .. ! at first distributor argue that it's working but the shop manager convince him if it burns it will burn everything .. etc

so i just need to know how i make sure nothing damaged ?! and what's went wrong ? the whole PC didn't continue 6 month ? i use pc only 10 hours a day or less and shut it down and no over clocking and stuff ?! and PSU is good quality !!

even if the PSU damage other parts isn't warranty suppose to protect me ?

thank you guys

cooler master has alot of failure rates. it can be a blown capacitor or something. i would never test the psu if it starts smoking even tho it works it may harm your system. i would open the psu and check for any burned marks or something blown. but opening your psu loses your warranty.

it has a feature - Multiple Protection Design (OVP/UVP/OPP/OTP/SCP) that means if it failed it would protect the other components from being damaged :) .

if you are getting another one that should be fine.

As far as to getting another Identical PSU, it should be fine. It could have been a short, but that wouldn't explain why it was still working, although smoking. I am of a mind that something some how got in there and that was what was smoking and thus the PSU continued working.
