USB Transfer Speeds Vary...

Hello!

I have a W8 system, a fairly newer ASUS MoBo with an AMD APU and 8 Gigs of RAM.

In transferring files from my internal HDD (WD1002FAEX 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s) sometimes I notice that the speed will start out great, maybe about 100-110 M/sec and then during the transfer (and it could be just one big file, around say 10 Gigs) it mysteriously slows about half way through to around 50-60 M/sec.

Sometimes I know that I have UTorrent or something else running that is demanding heavily from the internal drive, but in this case and some other times, nothing else is really going on.

The transfer is to one of my External HDDs (USB 3) Now, USUALLY when I just transfer between External HDDs (both USB 3) the speed stays up higher, but not always with the internal.

Any thoughts as to what might be slowing it down.

Thanks!

Hmmm, interesting thought; but, isn't the cache only about 64 Megs...? I mean while transferring a 10 Gig file and about halfway through it slows down from 100 M/sec to about 50 wouldn't really be impacted by that small little buffer, would it? Just my impression...
