Hello everyone! I'm upgating an old pc used for office work mostly. So far I've picked:
-Gigabyte Z87X-D3H
-Intel i3-4130
-Corsair Vengeance DDR3-1600MHz (2x8Gb)
or
-Kingston HyperX Beast DDR3 2133MHz (2x8Gb)
-DVD Drive
-Floppy Drive

I wanted to know if the old 300W PSU would be enough since the old lcd 17'' monitor powers up from the PSU as well.

Thanks in advance!

If it is using the onboard it should work fine.

It will depend on the specs of the PSU (nameplate data: +12V amps and watts) and on what the 300W PSU was powering previously. If the new CPU is lower wattage than the old one, that should be OK. Same holds true for the other components. But an off the cuff guess would be that if it was fine before, it should be fine now. But check the 24 pin connector to be sure it isn't only 20 pin. And if it is an old Dell, it may have a proprietary PSU that won't work with newer boards.

I would be upgrading that "old 300W PSU"

If your updating , why not update the most important part , the power supply running your system, the power supply isn't Haswell compatible , this one is at a great price.

Power Supply: EVGA 500W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply ($34.99 @ Micro Center)
Total: $34.99

Good point about Haswell compatibility. I overlooked that.

The PSU is this: http://sierraindigo.com/store/arianet-lpk9-4-power-supp... (Arianet LPK9-4 Power Supply 300W) and it was giving power to:
-Gigabyte GA-8ST667
-Intel Celeron 1.70 GHz
-512MB RAM
-NVIDIA GeForce MX400
-old sun lcd 17'' monitor

But I should probably upgrate the PSU as well, as you suggested. Thank you all!

Yikes! I thought it might be a sturdy old Dell PSU or something. I'm shocked that no-name could even handle the monitor alone.

Kingston HyperX Beast uses 1.6v. Haswell CPUs recommended voltage is 1.5 or less for RAM
