I have issues with my internet provider not being able to provide a stable connection, especially at peak usage times. When this happens I usually tether my iPhone (different provider) to my laptop to provide an internet connection. For this connection to work I need to unplug the ethernet (network) cable from laptop. The problem then is that I do not have network access for file transfer, etc... Is there a way to use tethering for internet connection while keeping ethernet cable
connected for network access only? Is there a setting in Windows 7 which will tell the system to look for a tethered connection first even when connected to network router? Thanks.

Solution
Rather than unplug the cable use the ROUTE command to delete the 0.0.0.0 route for the ethernet interface. Also be sure your router and the iphone are using different ip ranges for the networks...ie 192.168.0.x and 192.168.1.x for example.
