So, I recently upgraded my stock cooler to the H100i from Corsair. I have a 4670k with Arctic Silver 5 and a Gigabyte UD5H-Z87. I Don't know much about overclocking so I used software that came with the motherboard called Gigabyte Easy Tune. I ran an auto calibration test for the overclock and it stress tested at 4.2 all the way up to 4.6. Temps were in the 80's until it clocked to 4.6 and then went into the 90's during the stress test, one core hit 100 for a split second. I ran prime95 for about half an hour just to see and it stayed between 80-95 with an occasional jump to 100 on one core. Is this acceptable, or should I put it down to 4.4 or lower? I'm not real sure with Haswell chips, as the information all over the internet is very inconsistent when it comes to acceptable temps on this chip. I just don't want to fry anything. Spent too much money on this rig to have it die on me! Also, temps at idle are around 25-30.

i would better o/c through bios and not through software. also temps are skyrocketing due to auto voltage that always leads to higher voltage than actually needed! try using manual voltage and begin with the stock one. increase the multiplayer to 40x and do stress test, if it fails only then increase voltage by 0.005v. this way you will determine your cpu boundaries!your cpu cooler is a killer one! just try to keep voltage below 1.3v . safe temps for 24/7 are considered below 75c but it is ok if they pass that mark during stress test!

Does it matter that during gaming the temps never go above 60? I'm totally new to this overclocking thing. Where do I even begin. Go into the bios and then what? After changing settings and running stress test how do I know if it "failed" or not and will it automatically stop when it fails to prevent damage? LOL
