Only half of installed RAM is seen

I have the Asus M5A78L-MLX Plus motherboard with 2 CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3. Everything, including CPU-Z, is telling me that I only have 8GB installed. When I take a stick out, it says I only have 4GB when I should have 8GB. So it seems to be only taking half of the installed RAM. Why is this?

Iv'e other forums about this issue and none of those solutions work. I built this PC myself (first one) 2-3 years ago.

I am running W7x64 and have a VGA Card installed.

Solution
Possible, or have seen many that see a oackage w/ 8GB on it and think each stick is suppose to be 8GB, this has come up a couple times a week or so

2x4=8 I have 8GB per stick, I have two sticks which should equal out to 16GB between both sticks.

Each Stick has 8GB, not four. I have two sticks of ram, that should total 16GB.

I have two physical DIMMs installed. I'll try and post a pic of my system soon.

*Update* It seems that posting pics on here requires some work, so I wont be posting in pics for now. But I have the RAM stick in front of me, and it states "8GB (2x4GB)"

Not when each stick is supposed to have 8GB, read "2 CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB"

Jesus, I didnt even think that could be the case... But each stick does have a sticker denoting the amount of RAM it carries (8GB (2x4GB)); who would assume that means both sticks? If that IS the case, it would actually make sense, but thats really idiotic to label them like that.

It seems you are correct, and I feel like an ass. Why on Earth would they label it like that? Spoke to the computer guy on base, said that a lot of people learn that the hard way. I guess the 2 in 4x2 means 2 physical sticks, especially when bought in pairs. Sometimes its the stupidest things... thanks either way.
