Is there a place you can buy bare bone Graphics cards without it heat sinks and fans. I feel like a lot of the cost is in companys middlemaning and charging for their heat management. what id like to do is just buy a 780 then machine my own heatsink. have people done this before? i googled it and found nothing. I figured it was because enthusiast/machinest is quite a niche. Id like to just start churning out my own custom heatsinks. Any insight would be greatly appreciated

To my knowledge, if you want a bare card you need to buy it from someone who's removed it, or buy it halfway through Nvidia's factory line. Even board partners like MSI, EVGA, ASUS and that receive the boards with reference coolers on them from AMD/Nvidia, even if they are going to be replacing them with their own cooling solution.

Best bet, get a reference design card and take off the cooler.

I don't want the induction fan and all that though. :/ also does anyone build their own heatsinks? after development and testing it would be rather cheap for me to make them depending on materials used. id mostly be using re-purposed metal anyway.

Its the most basic card you can get, as they dont ship without sinks.
I havent heard of many people making their own, and those are for liquid N2. It might be cheaper, but most sinks use vapor chambers and aluminum fins, which are expensive to make.
