To begin, this is my first time posting here, so bear with me. But what I wanted to know is if the new (2014) Razer Blade is worth it? Next year I will be going off to college as a CS major and I am looking for a powerful but portable laptop. A friend of mine suggested the New Razer Blade and I think it's everything I need. Since I am still a novice with computers and hardware, I just think I would seek advice from the people here. And if there are any cons of this laptop I should be aware of, please let me know. Thanks!

Yes gigabyte is a good company. In general the common gaming laptops are Asus, MSI, Gigabyte,
and Sager. Lenovo and Samsung aren't bad brands either but their gaming choices are more limited. Stay away from alienware they are way overpriced.
The new Razer Blade is a beast of a computer and I would love one.
The truth is however you are paying a price premium for its extremely small size.

So if you value small size and portability with a powerful computer then yes. If you aren't so worried about the size a similarly preforming laptop albeit larger can be had for less money.

Pro: lightweight, powerful, good resolution, good battery
Con: Expensive, limited storage, limited options

The Gigabyte does look like a great alternative at a better price. Seeing that I haven't really been in the laptop phase at all yet, is Gigabyte a solid company to buy from?

I would almost agree with you except that the reviews of the keyboard and trackpad on the Gigabyte left much to be desired. I haven't tried it myself, but I couldn't find any stores in Toronto that have it on demo.

So I'm also in the market for picking up a powerful laptop that can not only play games well but just performs well overall in many tasks. I have my heart set on the Razer Blade 2014. I'm currently in a position where I have some disposable income and enough of it for this price range. The Blade gets a lot of flak for it's price and I'm sure some of the price is the brand name and the rest is the build quality/components. For me the build quality sells it for me. I have personally always wanted a full uni-body aluminum piece of tech but I'm not a fan of apple products and for a while they were the only company really making these kinds of products. I do not like OSX or iOs or anything else they offer outside of the ipod. I think the full aluminium case just looks beautiful and elegant. I like my tech toys to not only perform well but also look good at the same time. Obviously you can get a simialr performing laptop or better for less but it most likely wont have the same build quality. The only thing close enough in my opinion is the MSI GS60 ghost and GS70 ghost laptops which also use aluminium but some areas on the laptops are plastic. This isn't the case for everyone. I know plenty of people who would rather just pay for the functionality rather then looks or both. So it comes down to your personal preference. Are you the kind of person who likes tech toys that perform well and look good? Or do you just want something that gets the job done. I'm willing to pay the extra $ for something that looks pleasing to the eye and is powerful but maybe you aren't. I'd say the Razer blade 14" is a great laptop choice but I wouldn't rule out some of the high end laptops from MSI or Asus or Gigabyte. They all make very powerful laptops with different design choices. so...that's my 2 cents :D hope this helps you make a decision.
