So I sold my 1gb XFX 7850 for 130 today, and I was wondering if I should get a Gigabyte R9 270x for 160? I know it's a good card, but I would like to know if there are more options. My budget is around 200. I went a little wild on the other components of my build, and now I'm kinda broke :p  Any advice is greatly appreciated.

More about : upgrade 7850 270x

The 270x is close to the 7950 which is a great card. It will run almost every game at ultra settings. You won't do much better for $200, as you are looking at a GTX 770 or R9 280, neither of which are currently near that price.

Would it be worth it to crossfire in a couple months?

Check out a 760 reference edition if you want more performance for that price,

If your psu can handle it, you should consider crossfire as hd 7850 is nice gpu and just selling it won't be much worth it.
So either crossfire or get a gtx 770 or r9 280 or some better gpu. Upgrading to r9 270x is not worth it as they both perform quite similar and also have same architecture.

You should buy the best possible GPU now and not worry about crossfiring. I'd say Crossfire should be reserved for when you want an upgrade but don't want to sell your current GPU. Since you've already sold the 7850, just get a 280/280x or 770 now.

I meant crossfiring the R9 270x.

I would if I could, but that would go over my budget. It's either I get a decent card now, or go a while without a graphics card till I have enough for a more high end card.

Yes, actually crossifring r9 270x has worked pretty well for gamers. You will too get same results. But make sure there's enough airflow in your system.

My case has pretty good airflow. Also I have a corsair 800gs psu. I haven't looked at the power consumption of the 270x, would it be able to handle the crossfire?

Sure, gs800 is a great psu. Even while crossfire both the gpus are likely to use less power than 500 watts. I'm guessing around 450 watts or a bit more under load. So that's a plenty of power supply.

Wattage isn't as important, it's amperage. You need at least 43A on the +12V rail and at least 650W for Crossfiring two 270x cards.

My corsair 800gs delivers 66A

And gs800 is more than what he needs to crossfire r9 270x. :)
