Monitor or Video Card Problem?

I'm currently working on my first computer build and have encountered a problem. I have the computer put together, and when I press the power button the computer appears to turn on (indicator LEDs are illuminated, all fans are running, optical drive opens/closes, etc), however my monitor doesn't display anything (it remains in sleep mode). The monitor is connected to the video card via a VGA cable with VGA DVI-A adapter. What would prevent the monitor from receiving a signal from the computer? I've only done the initial boot, and haven't yet installed an OS.

My components are:

* Rosewell Challenger case
* ASUS M5A97 LE 2.0 motherboard (no onboard video)
* AMD FX-4130 Processor
* MSI GeForce GTX 660 2GB video card
* Dell 19" monitor
* Generic Radio Shack VGA cable and VGA - DVI-A adapter
* Cooler Master 550 PCU
* LG Optical Drive
* Kingston 120 GB SSD
* WD 1 TB HD
* 16 GB ram

Try connecting the monitor with another port in the graphic card, see if it works. either that adapter is broken or the card is DOA.

I tried using a new VGA to DVI adapter, however that didn't work. I then tried connecting another monitor via HDMI, however that didn't work either.

How can I test to see if the video card really was DOA before I send it back to Newegg?

It is simple if the card give you no display when you power on your pc like no logo of mobo or anything just a simple balck screen than the card is DOA.
