atheros wireless network adapter

why would the Atheros ar5007eg wireless network adapter be disconnected? and can it be physically removed by opening up laptop? and cloned???

You likely have a driver problem but the card could have failed.

That is actually a chipset and not a card part number. In general laptops use a couple of pretty standard wireless cards but some rare "ie cheap" laptops mount the chips directly into the motherboard. You are going to have to look up your laptop on the manufactures site and see what it says. Many times you can just open one small cover or you may have to disassemble the machine. Most more common laptop someone has a youtube video how to take them apart. You should be able to replace it with a more modern card only restriction would be your laptop has enough antenna connections. Many older ones only have 1 and the most advanced cards want 3.
