I have a laptop with nvidia gt 740m. When i play 2k14 on it i get around 40-50 fps. Then i bought a cheap HDMI cable and tried to play 2k14 on my tv (30+inches) but i got around 20-25 fps. Is it because of the HDMI or the GPU? also, would there be an improvement if i will buy a better HDMI with a label that says high speed 10 Gbps etc?

As SR-71 Blackbird stated, the cables are all the same speed/quality. Try disabling the screen of your laptop and using only the TV. If that doesn't help try to use the screen with other games and see if they get lower fps than on the laptop screen.

Laptop GPU plus higher resolution screen factors in.
