PSU question on new build

Hey guys quick question for you.

I just finished a new build and use the PSU from my old computer, a 4 year old 850TX Corsair.

The PSU is making some noise and I had boot issues right after building this system (not sure if it was PSU related or not, boot issues went away after checking all connections and re-seating the ram and CPU cooler).

My question - I have a new Thermatalke Smart 750M sitting around that I can use instead. Would that be enough to power my rig with enough overhead to OC the CPU and possibly the GPU eventually? Is that a decent PSU, I really wanted to stay with Corsair.

System Specs:
CPU - 4770k (h100i for cooling)
GPU - 780ti
Mobo - Maximus VI Hero
RAM - 16GB Corsair Vengeance 1600
HDDS - 2x Samsung EVO 250 and 2x WD Blue 1TB

Thanks!

There shouldn't be a problem. 850 W is overkill for single gpu setups. You would be fine with overclocking even if it is 4 year old. Unless it is faulty, it will be fine.

yah you really only need like 500 watts for that.

Either is fine recommended PSU size is 620watts and that is a high number. The Corsair is the better quality unit!

Problem is the Corsair is making some noise so I don't know if it is getting ready to die on me. It isn't a horrendous noise or anything....just a subtle rattling that is more than a fan should make.

Probably a bad fan\bearing , replace it before something goes awry.

A GeForce GTX 780ti needs at leat 42 amps on the 12v rail and a 600 watt power supply'

The amps on the 12v rail are the key.

Here's one with the power to spare.

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

Power Supply: XFX 650W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply ($64.99 @ NCIX US)
Total: $64.99
(Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.)

Could be as simple as dust clogged fan out of balance!

I have one of these laying around that's only been used for a few hours (in a different system)

Would that work for my situation?

That is what I thought originally so I blew it out really well before installing it (with compressed air). I didn't take the lid off or anything though.

Yes it's easily sufficent to power your specs , but not the greatest PSU.

The TT will work but is not of the same quality as the Corsair but definitely will handle the rig.
