RAM trouble seemingly out of the blue

Will post my build below, after describing the problem. Also, this is not a new build: I have been using the system since ~ mid-September 2011.
After having zero problems with the system since the initial construction (excluding a dead graphics card), I've suddenly run across a seemingly out-of-the-blue memory problem.

I was moving my computer from one side of the room to the other (new wireless setup) to get a better wifi signal, and upon turning my computer on, I was met with a, "the lights are on, but nobody's home" scenarios where my computer wouldn't even POST.

I tried restarting a few times with no success, so I decided to reseat the memory and other plugs to see if maybe in the (literally less than 6 feet) move something had jostled loose. With everything reseated, I tried again and was met with one of those Windows Startup Repair screens. Since you can't cancel them, I let it do its thing and it restarted my computer endlessly, doing the repair thing. Eventually it "fixed" the problem and on restart, gave me a Long, short short short POST code.

So now I've been fiddling with the RAM config and it seems SOMETIMES I can get it to boot normally with one stick in the third RAM slot. However, the addition of my second stick causes a new series of Long, Short Short, Short beeps. I've tried one stick in the other 3 config spots to no success, and both sticks in both the blue and the black slots to no success. I have been able to get my system to boot and run stably with both sticks of RAM.

The really confusing part for me is the inability to reproduce consistent results. One stick will work fine in slot 3. Then I try adding in another stick in slot 1, and I receive a mem error. Fine. I take out the offending stick in slot 1 and am met with the same mem error.

Here's my build relevant to the problem(copied and pasted from Newegg):
ASUS M5A99X EVO AM3+
CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB)
CORSAIR Enthusiast Series TX750 V2 750W
AMD Phenom II X4 980
