Hi Guys

Just did my first personal PC build from scratch, done builds and part builds for friends before but was mainly replacing faulty components.

http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/3mZ4w

this is a link to the build, the G card is actually the 4GB model and the Case is the cooler master K350 with 120MM fan pre fitted. i also fitted a 120mm fan to the 120 mm fitting point in the side of the case.

i have it all running like a dream except im not sure whats going on with the temps. everything is cool in the tower but the CPU runs at 41C when idle then goes up to about 62-65 when installing something for example. highest i seen it since i built is was 74C

Not sure what it should be but as you may have guessed by my choice of CPU and cooler i intend on overclocking it.

i used the thermal paste that was pre-applied to the cooler but it looked like it had touched the packaging as there was a bit of a line where it had been scratched.

any suggestions or are the temps fine?

Thanks guys

HWMonitor is good enough, but you may focus on the TMPIN0 reading because that's what the BIOS reads for the CPU as well. Temperature readings on AMD will always be tricky because they don't actualy have an internal thermal diode. They have it inside the socket, so what HWMonitor shows under "Package" is just an assumption or just a guess of what the internal temperature might be, something like it compensates the fact that the thermal diode is outside the CPU and not inside of it. There are and will be more victims of high temperature readings on AMD processors and I myself was one. Stick with what BIOS...

get some thermal paste and try to reapply. those temps are too high. idle should be in the 24-28c range. and under a load my temps on 4770K (no OC) never get above 47c. Running prime95 my temps get to 71 highest (blend torture test)

a good paste is Antec 7 Nano Diamond. or Artic Silver 5. (*i personally use Antec)

I used my 750k with the stock heatsink for an entire year going to ~55c in BIOS (86c to 90c shown by HWMonitor under "Package") and it didn't crashed or anything. Now i have an aftermarket heatsink and it shows just about the same as yours under "Package"...~40c idleing and ~70c in full load and ~28c idleing and a max. of 42c in full load shown by BIOS (or Aida 64, or TMPIN0 in HWMonitor), but the lowest depends on the internal temperature of your system so it goes there at the lowest and never lower. So that's about it. Enjoy your perfectly cool PC! Cheers!

Thanks Again!

I ended up running the MSI command centre which shows the CPU at 27 degrees when CPU fans at 100% and 31 degrees when smart fan is enabled. when i stress tested it the temp went up to about 51 degrees so was quite pleased with that.

Looks like i have plenty of cooling and room for a Overclock too!

Thanks again for your help
