Hi guys,
I'm parting out a build for my dad, and I have everything figured out except for the motherboard.

It has to be standard ATX
We will be using a 4930k
We need 8 dim slots
Atleast 2xsata3
4 more sata 2/3 ports

And we would like the board to be under 300 and have descent voltage regulators.

What would you guys go with for the board

Solution
I would recommend you to add 25$ and get this motherboard which runs 4930k out of the box!

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

Motherboard: Asus X79 Deluxe ATX LGA2011 Motherboard ($324.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Total: $324.99
(Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.)

Or this but you'll need BIOS update!

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

Motherboard: Asus Sabertooth X79 ATX LGA2011 Motherboard ($310.98 @ Best Buy)
Total: $310.98
(Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.)...

ASUS Sabertooth X79? Has 4 SATA3 and 2 eSATA3, and 8 DIMM slots. Bunch more SATA2's. They're on different controllers according to ASUS but they're there nonetheless. I'm not sure about voltage regulators, but it sits just under $300 on TigerDirect.

I know that it would be overkill for gaming, but he isn't using it for that.
He wants a new photo and video editing rig (currently he has a core 2 quad)

Thanks for pointing out the bios update, I take it that those are hard to do?

If you meant about BIOS update then it shouldn't be too hard to update the BIOS!

Sabertooth is a bit old motherboard, Delux is a newer motherboard which made for i7-49** series but they are similar but Delux has more SATA ports, and Sabertooth comes with 5-year warranty!
