Hey guys.

So I just installed Linux Mint 16 on my old laptop. I'm new to Linux, so don't judge me if you find any of my questions stupid or funny :)

So, I installed Linux mint 16 as the only OS on my laptop (replaced XP), so I dont use dual boot.

First thing I noticed after I installed Linux is when I open "Computer" I expected to see a partition (C:Local disk) or few of them (C:, D:, E:)  but instead I found this:

1.) HITACHI HTS541680J92A00
2.) HL-DT-ST DVDRAM
3.) File system

So, where do I create new folders for videos and pictures?? Can someone try to explain how this thing with disk partitions work in Linux. I though I could create C: and D: partitions for different purposes( C: for system files, D: for other files)

Oh, and when I click on HITACHI HTS541680J9SA00 I get: "Unable to mount location (Can't mount file)" message

More about : linux mint

Right. Linux does not use 'drive letters' like Windows does.
Everything for a particular user lives in /home/

Start it...you should see an icon near the top left of "Wort's Home"
That is you. Double click, and create whatever folder you want.

So the fact I can't open HITACHI HTs541680J92A00 is completely normal?

So, when I click on "Computer", I basically see all connected devices to my laptop (in this case DVDRAM, Hitachi hard disk, and file system), and not partitions as in Windows?

Correct. I get exactly that same result.
From the Desktop, doubleclick "Wort's Home". That is 'your' stuff.
Or from clicking 'Computer', then 'File System', then 'home', then 'Wort'.....you can create whatever you need in there.

Linux is significantly different from Windows.
