It's his birthday coming up, and we're brainstorming the best bang-for-his-buck build. He'll be playing games like BF4, CSGO, DayZ, Skyrim, Star Citizen later in the year, etc.

Hi Looks good. You may want to consider this memory: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231445 It is a bit pricier, but has a lower CL and timings. As for the case, you may want to consider the Cooler Master 912 HAF.http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119272 It is a mid tower and easy to work in with great air flow and fan options. I am using it myself. It is also cheaper then the one you had listed.

-Better quality psu.
-Better motherboard for overclocking. Not the most ideal one, but it overclocks better than the LE R2.0 because the LE lacks VRM heatsinks.
-Added a cpu cooler for overclocking.

get the caviar black hdd...cut down on your case....the corsair 200r is good and is cheap...get the evo version of the mobo...also, consider getting better ram...like the kingston hyperx blu atleast...also get the asus gpu or msi gpu....they have much better cooling...
