As the title points out, I am an idiot.

My partner first plugged in a laptop charger to the hard drive and it caused the hard drive to stop working.

Panicking and thinking it was a good idea at the time, I took the box off of the hard drive and plugged it in to my desktop PC internally, in line with my other hard drives.

When I turned the pc on there was a spark and the hard drive stopped working completely. There is no visible damage as far as I can tell.

I am wondering if the disc itself will still be okay and if so, how to go about getting the other parts for the hard drive so it will work again. (As an internal or external hard drive, whichever is cheaper.)

Thanks in advance.

The main damage will have occurred when a laptop mains adapter was plugged in to it, as the voltage would have been way too high.

There is nothing wrong with fitting an external hard drive internally, it's a common procedure.
It might work in a third-party hard drive enclosure, if it won't I would give up on it.
