AMD FX-8350 or Intel I5-4670K

I currently have an AMD FX-8350 and I am not sure if I should 'upgrade' to the I5-4670K. I AM planning to overclock my CPU and I am just wondering which processor is best for gaming primarily. (Fanboys are welcome as long as everything is FACT!)

Thanks!

PC specs:
MSI Nvidia GTX-670
AMD FX-8350
1TB 'HDD'
8GB 'RAM'
650W 'PSU'

  1. I'd stick with the 8350. The performance difference wouldn't even be close to worth what you'd spend on the cpu and motherboard.
  2. The 4670k does better on single-threaded tasks, but on multi-threaded ones the 8350 is insignificantly faster: http://www.cpu-world.com/Compare/446/AMD_FX-Series_FX-8350_vs_Intel_Core_i5_i5-4670K.html

This means that you'd have to buy a new motherboard and a CPU for an almost non-existent upgrade (most heavier tasks are multithreaded).

TL;DR: It's not much of an upgrade. If you really want more CPU performance go for the i7-4770k

Well the reason I'm asking is because i am getting a new MOBO either way.......

Still not worth it if you ask me. Get an i7 or stick with your current one.

sticking strictly to your question "I AM planning to overclock my CPU and I am just wondering which processor is best for gaming primarily" the i5 is a better gaming cpu. This is coming from a guy with a fx 8320, I don't have a dog in this hunt. However i will qualify what i said.

    1) if you have a 60hz monitor, there is NO F-ing point going to the i5. an fx 8350 will hit 60fps in everything, so you won't see any apreciable difference between the two and will sorta kick yourself for spending the bling on the move.
    2) do you have an SSD? If you do not, i suggest you get one. an SSD will make your computer feel like new in ways an i5 won't. Right now your computer (like every computer since the core2 cpu was released) is horribly bottlenecked by it's hard drive. There is no point going to an i5 if you don't already have an SSD. As you won't notice any difference in performance without out.
    3) you don't meantion any overclock on your fx8350. In my experience if you can clock an 8 core fx up to 4.8ghz, you probably will be unable to tell the difference between it and a STOCK i5 in 99% of your tasks.

Now, if you have a great 120hz-144hz monitor and an ssd, you'll definitely notice the difference with an i5, more so if you overclock it. So i won't say "don't get one" i'll say if you plan to get one, make sure you have the parts to support all that extra cpu power.
