Red, it would probably work in the black but most boards suggest running 2 sticks in dimm 1 and 3 which are the red slots on that board.

I'd go 2x8GB and would look to 1866/9 or 2133/9 (or better ;)  ), Haswelll loves fast DRAM.

Best sticks I've found for the Hero have been the GSkill Trident X line and then their Sniper line, have run tons of sets of DRAM on my Hero, use it as a test bed for client builds (in sig) ;)

With Haswell for the best performance and speed, pick Trident X any one from the below:

G.SKILL Trident X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) (Model F3-2400C10D-16GTX ): http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E1682...
-DDR3 2400 (PC3 19200)
-Timing 10-12-12-31

G.SKILL Trident X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) (Model F3-1600C7D-16GTX): http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E1682...
-DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)
-Timing 7-8-8-24

Will be best if you can afford $25 more. If you can't then go with basic as you mentioned:

Enjoy!!!
