So I am replacing the stock case fans that my pc came with (it was acquired long ago, pre built. don't judge I was young! I'm slowly replacing components.) Long story short I have a hot running gpu and a major reason is terrible airflow (opened the case, got 12 degrees cooler). I have 3 fan spots, 2 120mm and 1 140/120mm. Should I put a 120 or 140 in that variable spot? I will also be getting a drive bay cover that will give another fan spot (or I'll get a whole new case). I also need advice on fan direction. There are 3 drive bays behind the front mesh on top that are empty, meaning there's a spot with no airflow.

120mm: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
140mm: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

So, Q 1: 120 or 140?
Q 2: fan directions (intake or exhaust)?

2 120 mm intake I'm assuming in the front drive bays. 140 mm exhausting from the top. MO
Edit: Just seen the case. 1 120 mm front intake. 1 120 mm rear exhaust 1 140 mm exhaust. Get that heat out. You'll have negative pressure though.

Alright. I'll be getting either this: http://www.mountainmods.com/mountain-mods-alu-triple-12... to add a fan or a new case altogether so that I don't have a pointless empty spot. Why is it better to get the 140mm? lower sound for the air movement? Or is there another reason?

Also, will the negative pressure be beneficial in my case? I have the empty spot where air will rush in through, will that be okay?

Yeah. The 140 will push more air quietly. The negative air pressure could be bad if you have dust filters. If more air is being pushed out than sucked by the other fans then it will basically make your case a vacuum. Drawing air from holes bypassing the intake filters. Dust gets in. If you decide just to get another case then go for dust filters and try for slightly positive air pressure if not even. I had to play a little with the fan speeds with mine to get a good filtered flow because I noticed on top of the PSU there was large (If I can say that) particles of Dust and god forbid cat hair that came from the back mesh. Now it's been like a month and nothing. I guess that's a handy thing having a window :)
