I have been using the steps you have posted:

cmd: chkdsk/f h:.. ( after doing so, the prompt says cannot open volume for direct access)

what will I do? I need to recover all my files since I have important reports there and unluckily my back up on my computer was reformatted..

pls help..

thanks.

Western Digital has a nasty habit of selling a model of external drive that has hardware encryption built in, and not exactly making this apparent to the buyer. This adds to expense of the drive system and makes it darn near impossible to recover any data from the drive should the enclosure fail.

Also, it is not the purpose of this forum to help people bypass security measures such as encryption, should it be determined you have that sort of hard drive model.

Hi,

You can perform a quick format of your drive but just be sure not to write or copy anything on to it after formatting. Then, you can try to recover your files using data recovery tools like Recuva or PhotoRec to recover you important files from your external drive.
