What are system error memory dump files & are they Safe to Delete?

I'm using Windows 8.1. I just ran a "Disk Cleanup" for Drive C & noticed there is about 1.25GB space next to "System error memory dump files"
BY default, the Checkox was unchecked.
Here is screenshot:
Please tell me, what is system error memory dump files?
And Is it Safe to Check the Box to Clean this up?

When you get a BSOD it creates a dump file so you or MS can troubleshoot the problem. They are safe to delete.
