Router or switch or smart switch required? Central file server with programs and data that workstations access. Workstations also access one another. Workstations hooked up to network printers.

Data transfer rate from the file server to the workstations is presently too slow. 10/100 router used and wired to 24 port dumb switch presently.

How do we speed the system up. I7 computers with Windows 7 64 bit.

More about : programs run file server individual workstations talk require router switch link tog

Are all of your devices hardwired, or are some wireless? What speed is your Dumb Switch?

All are hard wired. Router is 10/100 rack mount, switch is 10/100/1000 rack mount.

If all your clients are connected to the Gigabit switch, then that should be fast. Do you know what data transfer rate you are currently getting when you transfer files from the server to the workstations?
