DELL T5500 DIMM1 on riser problem

I bought a used DELL T5500 server. I upgraded it to 12GB of RAM, so that all three riser card DIMMs had 2GB of ECC RAM, and DIMM1, DIMM2, and DIMM3 of the mother board also had 2GB each of identical ECC RAM. I also upgraded the BIOS to A16.

I then wanted to upgrade the system further with 4GB memory stick. Based on my reading, I understood that I should put the 4GB memory stick into the riser's DIMM1 slot. However on restarting the system I got the error message that there was no memory in riser DIMM1. So I removed the 4GB stick from riser DIMM1, and reinserted the 2GB stick. However, the system did not detect the 2GB RAM that had worked perfectly well in it before :-(

I have tried to swap out memory between riser's DIMM1 and DIMM2 to rule out (suddenly defective) bad memory chip(s). I have blasted compressed air into the DIMM1 slot to dislodge any dust that may have got in there. I have also pulled out and re-inserted the riser card.

All to no avail. The System still shows no memory in riser DIMM1 slot.

If I go forward with the boot, I get a message about non-optimal memory configuration. Once booted, ESX-i shows only 10GB as opposed to 12GB prior to this memory upgrade attempt.

BTW, I have run the BIOS level memory check, and it has come through clean.

It seems as if my riser's DIMM1 slot has suddenly gone kaput, or there is something on the riser/motherboard that needs to be reset.

Any help much appreciated!

Here is an update. I removed the riser card from the system. It seems like I have bent two pins in the riser DIMM1 slot. The two pins lie flat on the bottom of the DIMM slot instead of being vertical and lined up to make contact with the DIMM when it is inserted. Don't have any tool that is small enough to do a good job with getting the pins back in original orientation :-(
