Can I use an SLI with a PCI express for a single GPU?

I'm doing my first build, and I've got an MSI Geforce GTX 760 gpu, and a psu with one 6/2 PCI express end, and one 6/2 sli end. The graphics card has an 8slot and a 6slot. I'm wondering if I can use the PCI e in one of them and the SLI in the other one? Or do I have to use an adapter from molex?

I also got another cord with the GPU (besides the molex adapter), which looks like an 8->6 adapter. I'm assuming I can't use that from SLI to PCI or something? I suppose it's just for PCI8->PCI6?

Thanks a lot! All of these parts are new to me, and it's been tough to find a relevant answer via google searching.

sli means 2 gpu's at the same time. Irrelevant to you.

that card requires 8 + 6 so you need to plug both of those cables to a single card

Both of them are pcie cords, one just advertises the fact you could sli if you wanted to.

I guess a better question is phrased this way:

The specs say it has 2x 6/2 PCI Express connectors. I see 2x 6/2s, but one is labelled PCI Express, and the other is labelled SLI Ready. Are SLI and PCI mutually exclusive? Or does SLI Ready just mean that this PCI Express connector is capable of that as well?

Those 6/2 PCIe cables are EXACTLY the same.

If you have 2x6/2 PCIe connectors then you can support up to either a single card that uses up to 2x8-pin, or else TWO separate cards that use either a 6 or 8-pin connector.

*So your power supply can handle that card. The connectors are also idiot-proof. If they fit the card they are the proper connections (they are).
