Ok i know this has been asked and answered a million times already but i have one particular question.

I am planning on buying new Intel processor, and aiming for cheap solution (i3, or possibly i5). Now i can see that i3 price ranges from 100 - 150 euros, and i5 ranges from 180 - 230 euros. The price about i5 is okay, since you get 4 cores, but i don't understand why would anyone go for i3 processor that has only 2 cores when you can go for AMD that has the same price, and has 6 cores (some even have 8)

I am not really into this war between Intel and AMD but i don't see why not to go for AMD, It's cheaper to change my motherboard and get 100 euros 6 core AMD rather than sticking with my current motherboard and throwing 100 euros on 2 core i3 processor...

There will never be significant price drop on any cpu. Just look at all of the 2nd and 3rd gen Intels still out there and the 1st gen AMD FXs. Hell the last Phenom IIs are actually more expensive than they've ever been.

I do like the Haswell i3s better than the similarly priced FX6300, but there are a LOT of people out there that disagree with me(that doesn't make them right hehe)

Even this very site chose the i3 4130 over the FX6300 in a $750 budget build.

The biggest thing is that each Intel core is SO much stronger than each AMD core. It typically takes twice as many AMD cores to equal Intel.

I prefer the new i3s to the 6 core AMDs because their single thread performance is like 50% stronger than the AMD's cores. The i3 is a dual core but it has hyperthreading which makes up the difference in most cases when compared to the FX6300 for example. There will be times when the FX6300 is faster, but most of the time, the i3 is faster, and some of the time, it's a LOT faster. The FX6300 can be overclocked which helps it's weak single thread performance, but overclocking comes at a cost and it makes the FX6300 a good bit more than the i3 in those cases which it will still lose out about half the time. This is the same argument with the quad core i5s and the 8 core AMDs. The i5 have 4 very strong cores and the FX8350 for example has 8 relatively weak cores.

So in my opinion,

i5 4xxx > FX83xx > i3 4xxx > FX63xx > FX43xx > Pentium g3xxx

So i should go for intel i3 processor? Ok, i have another question. Will the price drop in year by now? I'm planning to go for it then, since my current processor serves me good enough for now. Will waiting be worth it or will the price remain the same?
