After about a week of use my new computer keeps locking up. It first started with my application (world of tanks). Then it move on to you youtube videos whenever I maximized the screen. It has progressively gotten worst and locks up even before post about 50% of the time.

My system:
CPU: AMD 6300FX
MOBO: ASUS M5 A97 R2.0
GPU: Visiontek R9 270X
RAM: Gskill Ares DDR3 1600 4GB X2
HD: WD Blue 1TB
PSU: Raidmax 530w
DVD: Liteon
Networking: TP-Link USB
OS: Windows 8.1

As it sits right now I can get it to boot up after a couple retries but eventually it will lock up again. I can sometimes open World of Tanks and login but my FPS goes to like 3 sitting in the garage screen. The system ran lightning fast the first week. Really no ide where to go from here beside going into a repair shop. I just don't have access to any known good parts to start swapping around. I know the PSU is on the weak side for the build but I feel like maybe I am looking at a mobo problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Troubleshooting I have tried:
Memtest86 came back no errors.
Updating all Drivers (even the keyboard)
Complete reinstall of windows. This took a long time due to lock ups before post.
Complete disassembly and reassembly of components.
Swapped my SATA connections around
Tried only 1 stick of RAM, also in different locations.

UPDATE
Bios has been updated, Still locking on boot up but stable if it makes it to Windows. Application
load times slow.

Locked up again after about 45 minutes of video.

For if the bios update doesn't help,
I keep looking at that psu as it's not the best brand. That has to do with build quality, not wattage,530watts should be enough.
Do you have an old psu with which you can check?
Did you check the ram speed/timings/voltage in the bios? maybe use the mem-ok button...the "how to" is in the manual.

Thank you for the response. After fumbling with my flash drive trying to figure out why it kept running memtest after deleting everything on it I finally figured out how to get the bios wizard to work.

1st boot after update locked the system up at the ASUS logo.

2nd boot was successful and after getting into windows I was able to run World of Tanks on all the highest settings. Load time for opening up the application and also opening up IE was still slow, the blue circle was spinning around for a couple seconds.

3rd boot showed the post screen and then rebooted itself and locked on the ASUS logo.

4th boot was the same.

5th boot locked up on the windows logo.

6th boot was successful. and as I write this I have World of tanks open along with a 1080 youtube video I keep swapping from full screen to minimize.

Any more ideas? I am very grateful for the help.

I was following the $600 budget build on this website and as I was making adjustments on Newegg a special came up for this PSU. I really wish I hadn't picked it up and paid the extra ~$20 for a better made one.

Can the PSU really be the cause of my boot problems? Not sure if it matters but it has never felt hot. That thread you linked looked pretty scary. Either way it needs to go :o

It can cause all kinds of stability issues , please don't use it , Get a quality PSU to protect your components.

Updating the BIOS on an unstable system is a bit risky. Is the system stable at idle for several hours? Does it lockup when running Prime95 torture test? If not, then stress test the video card with FurMark.

Is your PSU the RAIDMAX HYBRID 2 RX-530SS?

Well as I was writing a reply the youtube video I was watching ended and the system locked up as it was switching to the next video in the playlist.

Raidmax RX-530SS, no hybrid 2 anywhere on the box.
I have not tried either of those tests. Would they be safe to run if I am concerned that my PSU is the problem?
I just submitted a Newegg order for that Seasonic so I could hold off on troubleshooting until later in the week when it arrives.

I really do appreciate the help. I have only built one other computer about a decade ago and it all snapped together and worked like a champ for a couple years. Been on gaming laptops since then and swore that when it came time to get a new rig I would never get another laptop again.

It may or may not be your problem , but the PSU isn't safe or reliable.

The worst that could happen when running a test is a system lock. I also don't trust your PSU, but when I've had that issue, it was the GPU that caused system locks, not the PSU.

With the asus board does it have "USB BIOS Flashback" which means that you can even flash the bios with only an usb stick, even without a cpu in afaik. You must use a certain usb port for it,but it's in the manual.

Did you update the bios? Did you set it to the "optimal default settings" after that?
