Greetings,

New here and looking to upgrade an older desktop running XP. Primary usage will be just surfing, email, photoshop- not really any gaming. I want to run windows 7 and I like the idea of a ssd for the quicker boot times.

This is what I've come up with so far-

CybertronPC Forge Barebones - 3rd Generation Intel i3-3220 3.30GHz, 8GB DDR3, No HDD, No ODD, No OS, (TBB1123A)

Crucial M500 Series 240GB SSD - 2.5" Form Factor, SATA III, Encryption Technology, Advanced Controller Technology, Adaptive Thermal Protection - CT240M500SSD1
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=7869889&Sku=C19-2001

LG Electronics 24X SATA Super-Multi DVD Internal Rewriter - With M-Disc Support (GH24NSB0B
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=8528704&csid=_61

I get the impression that AMD and windows 7 don't play well together- am I off base on that?

Does this look good so far, or could I do better elsewhere? I don't mind putting it together if I could get a better system like that.

Thanks for the advice.

Dan

This is an excellent non-gaming build and less than $400 too I might add. It has a hybrid hard drive which will give you some of that SSD speed you want. The CPU is intel's best bang for the buck CPU. You won't need 8GB of RAM so I chose 4GB. I think it's the best build you could get for the money.
