I have recently upgraded my computer and now my monitor desperately needs upgrading to. I've been looking around and small HDTV's seem to be cheaper than actual computer monitors so I've been wondering if buying a small HDTV (around 22 inches) would work for a computer monitor? Are there any drawbacks to using a TV instead of a specifically designed computer screen? My GPU has a HDMI port so that is fine already.

Thanks in advanced.

It would work but not really well if you are competitive with your gaming. TV's have a bigger response/lag time.

Huge. FPS need as low a response time as possible. I would suggest getting a cheap TN panel with a response time under 5ms.

So you wouldn't recommend using a TV for a monitor if I'm playing FPS games?

NO - unless you don't care about how good it'll be.

I haven't experienced any lag problems using a vizzio HDTV on any games if you have.a decent GPU ( graphics card ) and processor then you should have much in the way of lag differences your graphics card has HDMI as well as dvi I'm sure which allows you to make use of a HDTV
