I'm pretty tech savvy, and have run into an issue that I can't quite figure out. Hopefully you can steer me in the right direction.
A friend just sent me his DirectCU II GTX 570 that he is no longer using. I am about to upgrade my two 5770s to this single card. In preparation for the upgrade, I ran the Catalyst uninstall manager in express mode and rebooted.
After doing so, I decided that I wanted to run a benchmark or two on the 5770s so I could get a hard number on the difference on the upgrade(my research puts it at around 25% or so). So I downloaded the autodetect driver utility from amd, ran it, downloaded the proper driver package and let it do its thing. About half way through the install, my monitor went blank as it was apparently no longer receiving output via hdmi from the cards. I let it sit for about 10 minutes to no avail. So I did a hard power down by pressing the power button in for a few seconds and rebooted. After booting, I was able to get to the desktop and the resolution was back at 1900x1200, so it seemed like the driver at least partially installed correctly. I was a bit concerned that it might be a bit off, so I ran the uninstall again so I could redo it properly. That completed successfully.
I then rebooted in safe mode with networking with the intention of downloading driver sweeper to do a clean up post uninstall. As I navigated to the download, my screen again went blank with no output to hdmi. I tried moving the mouse, the windows key, and ctrl-alt-del to no avail. Did a hard reboot. I tried the same thing three times with no luck. I now have the computer off cooling down in case the lack of drivers is somehow causing a temp issue.
I find it unlikely that the card(s) decided to go bad at the exact moment I was messing with drivers but they are old and anything is possible.

I have also switched out the cable in case that was the cause. Didn't help.

Any help or ideas on what to do next would be sincerely appreciated. Thanks!

certainly odd... what I would do = put the 570 in, it will boot into 800x600 resolution until you download the drivers.
(dont download the nvidia drivers yet tho)
from there, you can uninstall ALL of the amd drivers. since you have an intel CPU, you can remove anything AMD related.
There are some free tools out ther to wipe AMD drivers clean.

Then swap the Radeon crossfire back in with no drivers and it should again boot into 800x600 res.
then go and do a fresh download of radeon drivers and install and benchmark

Ok, i was trying to avoid opening the case because it is a mountain mods ascension duality with two full systems in it, weighs a ton, and I have a sprained ankle. Waah! lol

Anyway, opened it up and removed the top card, replaced it with the bottom one, so the bottom is now the top and only card in there. Same problem, screen went blank during driver install. I'm going to let it sit for a while and see what happens this time.
