Ok so im getting below average performance for a pc that should be performing very well.

My current setup is:

I5 3570k
Asrock z77 extreme 6
Corsair vengeance 8gig 1600mhz
Asus r9 280x
Kingston 120g ssd
Western digital black 750g hdd
Corsair hx850 power supply

I feel like the performance in games should be way better. I get constant stutter and fps drops in most games. Im wondering if it could be a faulty power supply or maybe my bios needs an update. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Update your video driver. Run MS update. Update all of the MOB's drivers.
Go into the GPU's controls and turn everything to Best Performance.
Turn down the Interlace. Make sure your SSD is running on a SATA 3 port and not a 2.
Make sure the GPU is on the PCI-Ex16 and not the x8 slot. :)

The x16 vs. x8 slot won't matter. There will be a 1% or less difference. Plus, I'm positive he has it is the right slot.

The x8 vs. x16 is not the problem here.

http://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/Impact-of-PCI-E-Speed-on-Gaming-Performance-518/ Have a read here. Look at the single TITAN (more powerful than a 280x) results. You will see there is no difference in performance between x8 and x16.

Also, OP, what are your LOAD temps for the CPU and GPU?

I have diablo 3 installed on the SSD. FPS monitor in game and FRAPS say its running at 60fps but it still stutters like crazy. And Elder Scrolls Online has a wierd line through the center of the screen almost like screen tearing. I tried enabling and disabling v-sync but its still there.

I will try to uninstall drivers and reinstall the newest, I will also check refresh rates.

I dont see an option at all for interlace in the catalyst control center.

If he is getting solid 60fps, then changing game settings won't really do anything. The stuff he is talking about (screen tearing even with v-sync, lines across the screen, etc.) is probably not game related. It is either driver/ internet. There is a small chance it is the GPU itself which could be defective, but I REALLY doubt this.

OP, make sure the games are running that 1080p as well. Sometimes games default at weird resolutions and cause issues.

I havent had a chance to reinstall drivers yet, i will as soon as i get off work though. How can i make sure that all drivers are uninstalled and there are no remnants hanging around? As for internet i have a 50mb down and 5mb up.

Edit: I will also try some offline games and post results as soon as i get a chance.
