Just finished my build and sure that I've done everything correctly. Connected every thing and tried to boot it up but nothing comes up on the monitor and there's a solid red light (cpu led) on the motherboard.
Please help

Asus M5A97 Evo R2.0
AMD FX 6300
Corsair XMS3 2x2gb
XFX Pro 650w

Is the system even turning on? Fans moving ETC. The power button may be hooked up to the MOB wrong.

check the cpu for any bent pins or things on the socket. be sure the cpu heatsink is properly seated also make sure the heatsink fan is connected to cpu_fan slot.

All the fans are spinning fine. I tightened the cpu heatsink fan done correctly but the heatsink can move a bit if I try to move it.
The CPU was definitely correctly installed. I'll try moving the RAM, currently there both in Blue slots

Try to place your RAM sticks in different slots and check out this guide

the ram has nothing to do with this if it did then the Dram red led would light up.

Go through and recheck all connections from supply to board and card.

4+4. < CPU power

6+2 < Graphics power

The heat sink should not be able to move. Make sure you have it installed right.
Check all of the jumper. Make sure the 8/4 pin CPU power connector is on right.
Check all of the connectors. Make sure the 20+4 pin connectors is installed right too.
Make sure the GPU has power. Are you getting any beeping?

I meant put 1st slot RAM stick into 3rd slot, and 3rd slot RAM stick into 1st slot!
I had boot issues in my old PC and it helped me few times!!!

Still a solid red light.
Just been looking through the motherboard manual and my RAM's part no. is not stated. It's Corsair XMS3 1600mhz 2x2gb (CMX4GX3M2A1600C9) so it should work but doesn't show up as compatible RAM in the motherboard manual. Is this the problem e.g. the red light?

Thanks

Yes, the is a problem. If they do not list it there is a high chance it will not work. (VERY)
Get some RAM that is compatible.

Will it have damage any of the other components?

No, the computer will just not boot because the RAM isn't compatible.

Could the manual be out of date? The RAM is ddr3, it's only 1600mhz and the timing is the same as other compatible ram.....

This is actually 100% false. It is actually VERY hard to find RAM that is not compatible. Don't forge that there are only like 4 different manufacturers of RAM so generally they are all always compatible.

OP, your RAM is 2.5v DDR3 RAM. It is compatible. This is not the problem.

Is there any way of making sure the RAM is not compatible or faulty?

Not unless you can get the computer to boot to the BIOS.

A bent CPU pin and be VERY difficult to spot and can cause this problem.

Ok thanks. I was thinking about that, I'm sure that I didn't damage the CPU pins when installing unless they were bent when I bought it.......
I tightened the heatsink down best I could but there is a bit of movement could it have bent a pin? Could a bent pin damage the mobo socket? (I doubt it but want to be sure....)

Thanks

A bent pin will not damage the socket. You also cannot bend a pin after the CPU is installed.

have you taken out all cables from the mobo and replug them with pressure?

Yes, I reconnected all the cables. "tiny voices", the RAM is 1.65v ddr3, would this make difference?

Your RAM is perfectly fine.

Not yet. The RAM says it's designed specifically to support the Intel Core i5 and Core i7 dual channel memory DDR3 solutions...I guess this is a problem

No that doesn't mean anything. It is NOT the RAM. That RAM is perfectly fine for your setup. That is just marketing BS they put on the box.

Ok, I'll do what"ModernWarfare" said and remove the mobo battery and reinstall it try that if it doesn't work I'll check the CPU for bent pins.
Thanks everyone! Let you known tomorrow if it works or if the problem continues... :)

Apart from checking the pins on the CPU, but I installed it correctly though.

Try booting the computer with nothing but the essentials connected. (CPU, motherboard, one RAM stick, PSU, GPU)

No fans, HDD, DVD drive.

Already done that.

Faulty mobo or faulty CPU/bent pin...?

Could be a bent or missing cPU pin. Could be your CPU cooler not being tight enough. I know this sounds weird, but I have seen many instances with this board and the Intel version where this problem was remedied with the proper amount of thermal paste (some people add too much and it leaks over the side of the CPU), and tightening down the CPU cooler as tight as possible. Really wrench it down.

have you tried powering up without the cpu?

April 7, 2014 2:11:58 PM

I tightened the cpu cooler not really tight but a decent tightness but I can move it a bit still. I put a thin layer of thermal paste spread with a credit card. Can't see any thermal paste overflowing..
m

April 7, 2014 2:14:30 PM

DO NOT spread thermalpaste. ALWAYS put a single pea sized dot in the middle and let the cooler squish it down when you install it. You have created many air bubbles by spreading. This won't solve your issue, but I would fix it as people have fixed this issue by reinstalling the CPU and cooler.

No haven't tried powering up without the cpu. "tiny voices", how could the cpu cooler tightened down be a problem?

I'll try remounting the cpu heatsink and the cpu tomorrow and the cmos battery. + check the cpu for bent pins
Thanks let you know tomorrow

Hey if you can try this. try removing the thermal paste you made with rubbing alcohol and add a pea/dot sized drop DO NOT PAINT THE CPU THE HEATSINK WILL DO IT ITSELF after that re-seat cooler nice and tight power it up and tell us how it goes if you can. someone had a similar problem due to too much thermal paste.
m

April 7, 2014 2:31:15 PM

What will too much thermal paste do?
m
0
l
a c 173 V Motherboard
April 7, 2014 2:33:15 PM

Generally nothing, but if you use WAY too much, it will bridge electrical connections and cause problems. This happens if it leaks down the sides of the CPU.
m

l
a b V Motherboard

because there's to much distance between the heatsink and the heat spreader on the chip. The thermal paste is just meant to fill in the scratches and dents (if any) on either of the two surfaces. It transfers heat but no where near as efficiently as metal.

l
April 7, 2014 2:36:28 PM

I can't see any thermal paste overflowing but will look more tomorrow

Not every time. Some MOBs are very picky.

http://pcsupport.about.com/od/findbysymptom/ht/nothingo...

That may help you. Try doing a hard reset of the MOB.
It may have a jumper to do this. You can also take out the battery and wait 10sec.
Make sure it is unplugged. Make sure the MOB is not shorting out on the case.
