Hi, sorry if I posted this in the wrong section (this is my first post here) anyway, to the point. Up into recently my laptop was running very smoothly, and all of a sudden I start getting awful lag spikes in all games and I was wondering if you could help me resolve this issue. My laptop is an Alienware M17x R4. I know you will need more information than this, so tell me what you need to know and ill get it for you. These lag spikes usually last around 1 minute, and in games like Minecraft my FPS goes from a solid 80+ to 1, literally. My Wifi has been playing up recently, I have been getting lots of "Limited access" symbols and after contacting BT, they said "I have completed some tests on your broadband circuit today...current speed that is being delivered to your BT Home Hub is 8.7 Mbps". Normally I would think that the wifi is the problem, but while opening up programs I now get "Program not responding" for a few seconds, so I'm not sure. I would REALLY appropriate any help, thanks.

The cores are hovering around 85 degrees. I realise that is too hot, but I have also been getting some weird error messages, one of which is "error: could not create the java virtual machine" when I attempt to open minecraft, but it works after a restart. P.s thanks for the fast reply!

Yes, I had been playing World of Tanks for a while beforehand, but I have noticed the temperatures getting a little too high. Do you think that is most likely the cause?

Thanks for your help. I will start using my cooling pad (although it is noise, and can't be opened up to clean it out). Ill your comments as the best answer. Thanks!
